Crime Analysis?  What's that?!

While scenes from CSI tend to come to mind for many -- you may be disappointed to learn that crime analysis is actually the study of crime, disorder, quality of life issues, traffic information and other relevant police data sets and operations in order to assist officers in crime reduction, crime prevention and problem solving.  So, no physical evidence examination here.

Crime Analysis at Bend PD

Bend Police Department's Crimes Analyst is responsible for collecting and reviewing police-related data in order to uncover crime patterns, series, trends, outliers and other problem areas with the city.  This includes examining sources such as calls for service data, case report and arrest information, traffic and collision data, pawn slips, and stolen property reports on combination with spatial, temporal, demographic and environmental factors.  The Crimes Analyst works with officers and community stakeholders to identify concerns, generate solutions to prevent and reduce crime, and improve Bend's quality of life based on Problem Oriented Policing (POP) and Information Led Policing (ILP) models.

The Bend Police Department's Crimes Analyst is a proud member of the Northwest Regional Crime Analyst Network and the International Association of Crime Analysts.
