Our staff is responsible for:

  • Wage and benefit administration
  • Labor negotiations and union contract administration, including conducting salary surveys
  • Recruiting, examining, and certifying job candidates
  • Equal employment opportunities and supporting a diverse workforce
  • Employee orientations
  • Ensuring compliance with labor laws

The department also assists to administer various employee benefit programs such as medical and dental health benefit programs, and coordinates voluntary benefit programs like deferred compensation and other insurances.

Veterans' Preference

Under Oregon law, Veterans who meet minimum qualifications for a position may be eligible for employment preference. If you are a Qualified Veteran or Qualified Disabled Veteran you will receive preference point – 5 points for eligible Qualified Veterans and an additional 5 points for eligible Qualified Disabled Veterans.

If you are Veteran and would like to apply for Veterans’ preference points, please select the Veterans’ Preference form. You may submit the documentation to the City of Bend Human Resources in a number of ways.

  • Option 1 (highly recommended): Electronically attach the completed Veterans’ Preference form and documentation to your application when you apply. To accomplish this you may “Save As” the Veterans’ Preference Form to your computer, complete the questionnaire and “Save” your responses. You may then “Attach” to your electronic application when submitting it with all required documentation by the closing date of the recruitment.
  • Option 2: Scan the completed Veterans’ Preference form and documentation to PDF file and include it with your electronic application along with all required documentation by the closing date of the recruitment.
  • Option 3: Mail or hand-deliver the Veterans’ Preference Form and required documentation to the City of Bend Human Resources office located at 710 NW Wall Street, Bend, OR 97701
  • Option 4: Fax the completed Veterans’ Preference form and documentation to the City of Bend at (541) 312-8479.

This completed form and the required documentation must be received by the City of Bend Human Resources Department by the closing time and date of the job posting.

BEND FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION

The Bend Firefighters Association is a member of IAFF, Local #227, representing approximately 69 fire and ambulance personnel.

The Bend Police Association represents approximately 112 sworn officers and administrative staff within the Police Department.

CITY OF BEND EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION

The City of Bend Employee Association (COBEA) representing approximately 160 labor, technical and clerical employees in the Public Works, Finance, Information Technology and Community Development departments.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The City of Bend Volunteer Program connects Bend residents with City departments through active volunteer participation. Volunteers will benefit the City by providing a capable resource pool to assist employees and will benefit residents by providing a greater understanding of local government and an opportunity to make a difference.
