Safety Outreach for Seniors (SOS) is a FREE safety program provided by the City of Bend Fire Department which helps uncover harmful conditions in and around your home that may place you, your guests and pets at risk of injury or even death.
SOS focuses on two primary areas; Fire Hazards and Fall Prevention.
We can visit your home and identify these hazards and recommend solutions to prevent an injury or fire. In addition, we will install at no cost free smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.
Of all the fire related deaths in Oregon, 60% happened to people in this age group. In addition, falls are the leading cause of hip fractures and brain injuries among Oregon's older adults.
Not sure or doubtful there are dangers in your home? Take a real close look. As items in your home age, they can become hazards. Outdated smoke alarms that may not operate if there is a fire; carpet wear patterns can trip you up, increasing your risk of falling. You may also have more risk factors connected with reduced vision, hearing loss, medication side effects, mobility challenges or balance.
