Flame Retardant for Decorative Materials

The Oregon Fire Code requires all decorative materials in A (assembly, theaters, bars, restaurants, etc), E (educational, schools K-12), I (institutional, hospitals, jails, etc), and Dormitories (college) be flame retardant, either by the manufacture or by applying a chemical to reduce the flame spread of the decoration. Below is information on the requirements for flame retardant materials.
Any flame retardant or resistant decorative item that has had its fire resistant coating removed or has had a flammable coating (including, but not limited to airborne dust and flammable paints) applied or adhered to its surface, will have negated its flammability rating and must be, at that point, maintained or repaired to certify its original flame retardant condition, replacing as needed.
