Do I need a permit for Pre-Manufactured Accessory Structure?
Effective 8/16/17 the City of Bend will no longer require an engineer’s stamp on pre-manufactured one-story structures up to 600 square feet in ground area that are accessory to residential dwellings. These buildings are typically utilized as carports for boats; RVs etc. and are typically constructed of an open lightweight metal frame with metal or fabric roofing.
Effective 8/25/17, re-roof of 30% or less of roof area per structure per year is exempt from our permitting requirements. A re-roof permit is required if greater than 30% or more of roof area is being replaced.
The City of Bend is located within a legally determined Wildfire Hazard Zone and as such requires permits for re-roofing in order to verify the materials used protect against wildfire as required by the State of Oregon Residential Specialty Code (Section R105.2, 18, exception 1).
Roofing materials of all residences and their accessory structures shall be asphalt, slate, tile, clay or concrete shingles or metal roofing and must comply with Oregon code referenced above. Untreated wood shingles and shake roofs are not permitted.
