The Bend City Council has four positions that will be placed on the ballot for the Nov 2016 election. The Bend City Council is comprised of seven council members who elect the Mayor amongst themselves. Council Members are elected to four-year terms. Individuals winning a seat on the City Council will begin serving Jan. 2017.

Citizens interested in serving on the City Council may begin the filing process June 1, 2016 and have until August 30, 2016 to file completed petitions.

Four positions will expire at the end of December. Those include Jim Clinton, Sally Russell, Doug Knight and Victor Chudowsky.

Requirements for Bend City Council election:
The petitioner must file a prospective petition with the City Recorder. Once approved, the petitioner should circulate the petition and gather 150 qualified signatures. When the signatures are gathered, they are verified by the Deschutes County Clerk's office. After the petition is verified, it becomes a qualified petition and must then be filed with the City of Bend’s City Recorder. To qualify to serve on the City Council, candidates must reside within the city limits of Bend for no less than one year prior to taking office and be a registered voter.

Expectations for Bend City Council:
Candidates can expect to meet in the Council capacity at least four nights each month.
Persons elected to the City Council are automatically placed on the Bend Urban Renewal Agency Board and serve on the Budget Committee.
