Safety Outreach for Seniors
Bend Fire & Rescue offers a free program called Safety Outreach for Seniors to help older adults live a safer and more independent life, free of fire and fall risks.
Through the Safety Outreach for Seniors program, trained volunteers visit your home to look for things that could cause falls or fires. They’ll check for tripping hazards and offer simple ways to fix them. They’ll also make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly, are in the right locations, and offer resources to replace them, if needed. The goal is to help you live independently longer and feel safer and more comfortable in your home. To schedule a FREE visit, just fill out the Safety Outreach for Seniors Consultation Request form below or call us at 541-322-6300. Bend Fire will also visit care centers for larger group visits upon request, minimum of 10 participants.

Community Partners
Bend Fire & Rescue works alongside many trained volunteers and community partners to make Safety Outreach for Seniors possible.
Volunteer Advisors
Safety Outreach for Seniors volunteer advisors have been trained to identify fire and fall hazards. Volunteer advisors received their training from Bend Fire & Rescue and our community partners, such as the American Red Cross, home health organizations and health professionals.
Volunteer advisors assist seniors in recognizing fire and fall hazards, and where possible, will help make corrections or aid in finding further assistance. They work with seniors to:
- Identify hazards or potential hazards in the home or garage.
- Discuss hazards and note safety issues that may be an issue.
- Test your smoke alarms and ensure they are up to date and functional.
- Make recommendations about how seniors can best move about their home free of hazards, enhancing their independence.
