The 3rd and Wilson Modernization project will provide a design for intersection and signal modernization. This project will also bring City water and roadway infrastructure up to current standards along Wilson Avenue between 2nd Street and 5th Street. This modernization will increase safety, connectivity, and mobility for all users of this corridor.
The intersection at SE 3rd Street and SE Wilson Avenue was identified to reconstruct an aging, damaged traffic signal and update the geometry and corridor to serve all modes better. The signal reconstruction will update signal detection for all modes, remove split-phase timing to enhance traffic flow, and upgrade the controller to allow more responsive timing changes. The intersection reconstruction will improve lane utilization on the east leg, improve turning movements for large trucks that were hitting the signal pole, and enhance facilities for biking and walking. The City has identified Wilson Avenue as a key route for walking and bicycling. This project will help ensure Wilson Avenue becomes the walking and bicycling route envisioned by the City.
Along with the transportation infrastructure upgrades, this project will also be upgrading the existing deficient waterline system by replacing dead-end 2-inch lines with a looped 8-inch pipe to provide a more reliant service to the City’s residents and businesses.
- Functional and reliable infrastructure
