It is with much sadness that we post this information, provided to us by John Love's family. Rest in Peace John, the City of Bend misses you. John M. Love, amazing father, husband, brother, and friend passed away February 6, 2019 in Bend, Oregon, where he had lived since 1992. He was born in Shelby, Montana in 1958. His family moved to Byron, Wyoming in 1962, and then to Fremont, California in 1968. John graduated from Irvington High School in 1976. He attended California State University, Fresno, where he met his wife, Cyndi and his first “family” of friends, the Loosedogs. He graduated in 1986 with an MBA. He went to work for a company in the technology sector in the San Francisco Bay Area. They were transferred to Atlanta in 1989 and then returned to California in 1992, wanting to get back to family, friends and the West Coast. John took a job with the Forest Service as a Wilderness Ranger in the Trinity Alps for the summer, and then they moved up to Bend, Oregon. John found his true calling with the Fire Service and was employed first by Grants Pass and then by the Bend Fire Department where he met his second “family” of friends. John worked for the BFD from 1996-2013, ending his career as an Engineer/Paramedic. John came back to the Fire Department as the Volunteer Coordinator from 2014-2016. Since retiring, John divided his time between managing real estate investments, volunteering with his son’s high school sports teams and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Cyndi, his sons, Colton and Forrest, also of Bend, Oregon; his brother, Deaton Love and his wife Lynn and their three children: Tyrel and Lyra of Maine, and Jaxon of San Jose, CA, and their spouses and children; his sister, Etta and her husband, Bob Reynolds, and their two children: Andrew of Alaska and Cody of Tollhouse, CA, and their spouses and children; his brother, Charles of San Jose, CA; his sister, Lisa Love of Twin Falls, Idaho, and her five boys: Jonathon, Sam, Jed, Brent and James, and their spouses and families. John lived life to the fullest, had a huge heart, loved the outdoors, particularly camping, backpacking, stargazing and traveling to places he hadn’t been. He loved music and was an accomplished musician in his own right. However, his favorite things were spending time with his sons, friends, and family both by blood and by love. He will be dearly missed by all he touched. Services will be Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Mountain View High School Auditorium in Bend, Oregon at 1 pm. There will be a memory board to share memories or photos. In lieu of flowers, and if so inclined, donations can be made to the John Love Memorial Fund at First Interstate Bank, Account number 0101329316. Funds will be distributed to John’s three favorite organizations, the Bend Fire Community Assistance Program, the Bend Fire Pipes and Drums and the Mountain View High School Football program.

That means it’s time for a little hide and seek fun! Safely find and de-ice storm drains near you so rain and melt-off have a place to go. Plus, you’ll help keep your property “olly olly oxen free” from flooding! Here’s a map to help you find the storm drains near you: https://maps.ci.bend.or.us/html5viewer/?viewer=hydrantviewer
