Stair Climb 2012Help the Bend Firefighters Fight Cancer!
Thursday, February 9, 2012
Longboard Louie’s (Healthy Mexican Food!)
Eastside – 62080 Dean Swift Rd. (E Hwy 20 near Costco)
Westside – 1254 NW Galveston Ave.

Bend Firefighters will be heading to Seattle to compete in the annual Firefighters Stairclimb challenge. This event draws firefighters from around the world to climb 69 floors of Seattle’s tallest building, the Columbia Center. They do the climb in full protective gear including air tank and mask, more than 60 pounds of total gear worn. In 2011, the event drew over 1,500 firefighters and brought in a record $930,000 for blood-cancer research and patient services. Bend Fire Department Firefighter Chris Guy finished with the fastest time of the 9 Bend Firefighters at 14 minutes, 53 seconds (that’s 88 steps per minute!).

Our inspiration to compete this year is 4-1/2 year old Jesse Walker, who is currently in remission from AML, a form of leukemia.

Bend Firefighters raised $13,963 last year, coming in 11th in overall fundraising out of the 281 fire departments who participated – help us beat that number and do even more to help fight cancer this year!

We need your help! Longboard Louie’s has very generously offered a portion of their sales this Thursday, February 9 as their donation for cancer research. Stop by, have a great lunch or dinner, and lend your support for the cause!
