City of Bend brings in new Accessibility Manager

Post Date:01/20/2012
In an effort to improve collaboration, share resources and move forward toward common goals, the cities of Bend and Redmond will share accessibility resources by assigning Mike Viegas to both cities. At the City of Bend, Viegas replaces Susan M. Duncan, who left in November 2011.
Viegas has been with the City of Redmond in the roles of Accessibility and Risk Manager for four years. Prior to that, he was Risk Manager for 16 years at Deschutes County. Viegas is a University of Oregon graduate and has lived in Bend since 1979.

The City of Bend Accessibility Program strives to improve access to City services, activities, programs, facilities and events throughout Bend. Assisting City staff in understanding the intent and application of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and all related codes, standards and guidelines is an important aspect of the program. The Accessibility Manager also assists in managing the components of the Settlement Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
