The City of Bend Police officers and staff collaborate with the local, state, and federal partners in a wide variety of public safety.
The City of Bend Police Department has a sworn and non-sworn staff. Our non-sworn serve in Evidence, Information Technology, Records, and Support Services, as well as a Crimes Analyst. The Officers serve in a number of specialty assignments including the Community Response Team, Community Service, Information Led Policing, Investigations, K9, Patrol, School Resource, Traffic and Training.

Jim Porter, Chief
Chief Jim Porter began his law enforcement career in 1983, serving with the Crook County Sheriff's Department and the Brookings Police Department. He was hired with the Bend Police Department in 1991. He has served as Captain for the Investigative Division, Support Services and the Training Division. In April 2014 he was promoted Chief of Police for the City of Bend Police Department.
Chief Porter has been awarded the United States Air Force Achievement Medal, Medal of Valor from Oregon Police Officers Association and the Bend Police Department Unity Citation Award and the Chief of Police Commendation Award
Jim and his wife have been married for 36 years and have two grown daughters. He enjoys kayaking, snowshoeing, hiking and trail running.
